Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations was held on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, in the Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20, in Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 1:16 p.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

Senator Van de Putte made opening remarks and recognized Charles Buerschinger, who led the committee in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Senator Van de Putte then recognized Tim Villasana, a new member of the committee staff, who spoke briefly about his service in the military. 

 

Public testimony was then heard on interim charges 1,2, and 3, as well as other veteran and military issues.  Witnesses registering and testifying are shown on the attached list.

 

At 2:53 p.m. Senator Van de Putte moved that the committee stand recessed for a few minutes; without objection, it was so ordered.  At 3:06 p.m. the committee reconvened. 

 

There being no further business, at 3:50 p.m. Senator Van de Putte moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
