Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Thursday, May 10, 2007, in the Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted on pending bills: 

 

The chair laid out SB 431 and recognized the author, Senator Harris. 

 

Senator Harris sent up and moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Harris moved that SB 431 do not pass but that CSSB 431 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent. 

 

Senator Harris moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair laid out SB 1367 and recognized the author, Senator Harris. 

 

Senator Harris sent up and moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Harris moved that SB 1367 do not pass but that CSSB 1367 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent. 

 

Senator Harris moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair laid out SB 2057.

 

Senator Wentworth moved that SB 2057 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent. 

 

Senator Harris moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.    

 

The chair laid out HB 75.

 

Senator Hinojosa moved that HB 75 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent. 

 

The chair laid out HB 1086. 

 

Senator Hinojosa moved adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Hinojosa moved that HB 1086 do not pass but that CSHB 1086 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent. 

 

Senator Hinojosa moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair laid out HB 2359.

 

Senator Hinojosa moved that HB 2359 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 4 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 3 absent. 

 

Senator Hinojosa moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

There being no further business, at 3:37 p.m. Senator Wentworth moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
