Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10 and 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:02 AM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:

 

The chair made introductory remarks and introduced the Senate Education Committee staff. The chair then recognized the Committee members to introduce their respective staff.

 

The chair laid out SB 7 and recognized the author, Senator Bettencourt, to explain the bill.

 

Senator Bettencourt sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Bettencourt to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.

 

The chair laid out SB 653 and recognized the author, Senator Van Taylor to explain the bill.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on SB 7 and SB 653 are shown on the attached list.

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed on both bills; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The chair moved that SB 7 and SB 653 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Van Taylor assumed the chair.

 

The chair laid out SB 22 and recognized the author, Senator Larry Taylor to explain the bill.

 

Senator Uresti sent up a committee substitute.  The chair recognized Senator Larry Taylor to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed.

 

Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

The chair moved that SB 22 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered.

 

Senator Larry Taylor resumed the chair.

 

There being no further business, at 12:02 PM Senator Larry Taylor moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
