The chair called the meeting to order at 2:05 PM. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
The following bill(s) were referred to the Subcommittee on Higher Education: SB 17 and SB 18.
Senator Campbell assumed the chair.
The chair laid out as a matter of pending business SB 8.
Senator Bettencourt sent up a committee substitute. The chair recognized Senator Creighton to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed. Senator Paxton moved the adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Paxton moved that SB 8 do not pass but that CSSB 8 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.
The motion carried with a record vote of 10 ayes, 2 nays, 1 present not voting, and 0 absent.
The chair laid out as a matter of pending business SB 9.
Senator Bettencourt sent up a committee substitute. The chair recognized Senator Creighton to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the senate bill as filed. Senator Birdwell moved the adoption of the committee substitute; without objection, it was so ordered.
Senator Birdwell moved that SB 9 do not pass but that CSSB 9 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.
The motion carried with a record vote of 12 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.
Senator Creighton resumed the chair.
There being no further business, at 2:19 PM Senator Creighton moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
